A magnificent sight!

Looks like the shrine used to be barely there in the old times. Could almost imagine just happening upon this statue while going for a walk in the woods back then.

Originally, it had an enclosure much like the one in Nara but it was burnt down in a Typhoon hundred of years ago. There is a wall around it now.

We visited Japan before returning to UK after 2+ years of living in Hong Kong. The Buddha was one of the places of interest on our visit.
